Just when I thought I’d have to choose between buying organic sheets at Target or having them shipped to me (hard to say which is better), I found a few great options right here in town. It’s amazing what a little Google grease can do…

McKirnan Bed and Bath Company, located at 2460 Canyon, carries the Suite Sleep brand of organic hotel-style bedding. While they seem to offer only one type of sheet set, there are five colors for the picking.

Ellie’s Eco Home Store is another option for organic linens. In mid-October, they’re moving from 3460 Walnut St. to neighbor with Sunflower Market in the Village Shopping Center. They offer sheets from the Loop Organic brand at a price that is just a few dollars less than McKirnan’s.

The organic linens at both locations certainly cost more than their organic counterparts at Target (nobody said there were bargains involved). But, they do say that we spend 1/3 of our lives sleeping…and beauty sleep is beauty sleep. 😉

Youre getting sleepy...

Of all the bars in Boulder, I often find myself visiting Tahona Tequila Bistro at 1035 Pearl Street. Their house silver coin margaritas (sans salt) are worth a Boulder Maven honorable mention, and DJ B-Times keeps booties shaking on Saturday nights (or toes tapping in my case).

Tahona also uses locally-grown ingredients whenever possible, and their awesome happy hour is available every darn day of the week.

This weekend, I had the pleasure of attending “A Discerning Eye: Honing Your Copyediting Skills,” a class taught by my beloved friend and teacher Alice Levine. After studying with Alice for the last year, I can confirm that she’s a true hero and genius in the editing world and an important influence on the Boulder publishing community. If you’re interested in brushing up on your skills or are just an editorial dork like me, Alice’s classes are addictive, but well worth the investment (no publishing aspirations required!).

Alice initially stole my heart by showing this little gem in one of our first classes:

Tomorrow night, Crested Butte’s very own Matchstick Productions will be showing their newest film “CLAIM, The Greatest Ski Movie…EVER!” at the Boulder Theater. They’re only featuring the film for one evening, but there are two showings (7 & 9 pm). What better way to temporarily satisfy my craving for ski season?

If you haven’t seen a film at the Boulder Theater or you’ve never had the pleasure of indulging in Matchstick’s amazing cinematography, tomorrow is your lucky day.

Here are a few shots to wet your winter whistle (courtesy of Matchstick, of course):

Yes, another post about dessert!

Just wanted to give a quick shout out to Tee & Cakes, one of my favorite dessert joints in downtown Boulder. They’re celebrating their 1st birthday on September 24th with an entire day of free cake and champagne…how will I ever make it to work tomorrow?

All of their mouth-watering cakes and other delights (like their Espresso Milkshake) feature all natural dairy products from the Morning Fresh Dairy Farm in Bellvue, Colorado. In addition to their “standard” flavors like Strawberry Milkshake, Red Velvet, Mocha, Cookies & Cream, and Chocolate Bacon (to name a few), they also offer some gluten-free options, which have received the Patrick seal of approval.

Over the past year, I have developed a love affair with Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Geranium Products. My laundry soap, dish soap, all-purpose cleaner, dishwasher detergent, you name it—all Geranium all the time. Not only do the products smell like a dream, they feature natural ingredients (great for my freakishly sensitive skin) and are biodegradable. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed cleaning products so much.

I’m sad to say, however, that the dishwasher gel doesn’t completely clean even the most pre-rinsed dishes—my beautiful white espresso cups are developing rings! To add insult to injury, the laundry liquid is incapable of tackling even the most removable stains…what’s a girl to do?

I hear that Seventh Generation makes a Blue Eucalyptus and Lavender laundry detergent, and Earth Friendly Products offers a High Performance Dish Gel in Lavender…perhaps it’s time to break my Geranium addiction and give Lavender a try?

Here’s a fact that might surprise you (courtesy of Seventh Generation):

Now that’s a big difference no matter how you scrub it!

After dinner at the West End last night, we were both in the mood for a pallet-cleansing dessert. (Me in the mood for dessert?) Conveniently enough, Gelato Bacio (bacio means “kiss” in Italian) was located just across the street at 1021 Pearl. The sweet little local joint is owned by David Cohen and Mike O’Brien of Spruce Confections and features delectable flavors that are all homemade from local ingredients. (Update: As of February 2009, Gelato Bacio is now called Two Spoons and specializes in warm and cold delights!)

When we were sufficiently sweetened, it was off to Bacaro* for two glasses of wine before pedaling home for the evening…have I mentioned that I love Boulder?

*Wine isn’t the only great offering at Bacaro…Jack and I had an amazing dinner there just last week!
